Alcalá del Júcar with kids: family plans

Alcalá del Júcar works very well with children. The village is small and walkable, the river is a step away and there are activities designed for every age. These are the ones that go down best with the families who stay with us.

On the water

• Family rafting. The stretch of the Júcar by the village is calm and local companies run gentle descents suitable from an early age, with an instructor and life jackets. It is the star activity of the summer.
• Canoeing on calm water. Two- or three-seat canoes to paddle without current, with the castle in the background. Children can share a boat with an adult.
• Stand-up paddle for the older members of the family.
• Swimming from the riverbank. Next to the riverside walk there are areas of shallow water. Always with an adult beside them: the Júcar has stretches with current.

Caves and castle

Children love the caves: going into a mountain through a hand-dug tunnel and coming out on a balcony above the river is an adventure in itself. The Cueva del Diablo also has a collection of old objects that catches their attention.

The castle is a hit too, with its walls and keep, but mind the stairs and the edges: hold hands with the little ones.

Karting, zip line and rope park

On the edge of the village there is a kart track with vehicles for different ages, and companies in the area organise rope parks with zip lines and paintball for groups. They are the perfect alternative for a very hot afternoon or a cloudy day.

Walks they actually enjoy

• To Tolosa along the river. A flat dirt track, shaded, with no cars and plenty of places to stop and throw stones into the water. You can do just a stretch and turn back.
• Counting the steps in the old town. Turning the walk through the alleys into a game works better than any trail.
• Casas del Cerro viewpoint. Five minutes by car. The family photo with the whole village behind.

Eating out with children

The terraces by the river and in the caves are spacious and relaxed. And if one evening you would rather eat in, all three of our homes have a full kitchen and room for four. A tip: an ice cream in the square at siesta time settles any protest.

Before you come

• Cot. Ask for it in the message of your booking request and we will do our best to have it ready.
• Pushchair. The old town has a lot of stairs; a baby carrier is more practical. The riverside walk is fine for pushchairs.
• Sun cream and hats, especially by the river.
• ID. On arrival we register every guest aged 14 or over, as in any tourist accommodation.
